Asia Trip 018 - Yangshuo 阳朔 - 001

Asia Trip: Day 146 - Yangshuo 阳朔 (6/8/19)

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up early at 7:00am, felt tired then went back to bed at 9:30am

    • I went to the local market at 8:00am

    • Woke up again at 12:30pm

    • Rented a little scooter and took it all along the Li River

      • It was so hot and I didn’t drink any water

      • I was the hype man for this woman’s bamboo chicken stand

      • Felt terrible - so I came back and napped

      • Got KFC, ran into a Spanish guy and napped

    • I woke up and McDonald’s for dinner

    • Talked with my Dad on the phone

    • Got some drinks with people from the hostel


Asia Trip: Day 147 - Yangshuo 阳朔 (6/9/19)

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up and it’s pouring, I waffled for a bit and then got a petrol bike for the day

  • Rode for three hours IN THE PISSING RAIN

    • Got so stoked

    • Rode back to the hostel to hang out

  • Talked to Dad

  • Talked to Mom

  • Impulsively decided to venture to Laozhai hill 老寨山 for sunset

    • Rode a half an hour in the rain, finally got there, got lost for a bit and then found the trail

    • Sprinted up the mountain in fifteen minutes, it normally takes forty minutes to get to the top

    • SUNSET WAS AMAZING - SO MANY GOOD PICS

    • I rolled my ankle at the top :/

    • I went down the mountain in the rain, in the dark, by myself with a bum ankle

    • FELT SO ALIVE

  • I rode a half an hour back in the dark

  • I got home, felt so accomplished, so wet and badass

    • Took a hot shower and felt v nice

  • Got some food, chatted with some people and passed out

Asia Trip: Day 148 - Yangshuo 阳朔(6/10/19)

Daily Highlights:

  • Slept in until 10:15 am

  • Ankle felt a bit stiff

  • I iced my ankle, read Gai Jin, and practiced Chinese

  • Took a nap

  • Went out and got some noodles with friends

  • BOUGHT TICKETS TO ZHANGJIAJIE, SO STOKED

  • I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest

    • It was very strange, not what I thought

Asia Trip: Day 149 - Yangshuo 阳朔 => Zhangjiajie 张家界 (6/11/19)

Daily Highlights:

  • Slept in until 9:30am

  • Wandered around the streets and the markets

    • 我的早饭是很多香蕉

  • I read a bit at the hostel, got Kung Pao Chicken and then left to Guilin

  • Took a bus to Guilin station (1 hour bus ride) then took the public transportation to 桂林站

  • I waited for three hours

  • A friendly woman helped me with my Chinese

    • I LEARNED HOW TO YELL AT PEOPLE TO STOP CUTTING THE LINE

    • 排队 & 去后面排队

  • I took a one hour train ride to Liuzhou

    • Walked around for an hour and got some dinner

  • Went back to the train station and waited for half an hour

    • I saw some guy staring at me on the long escalator ride, so I said in Chinese “Hey look at the foreigner! HEY, HEY, LOOK” and his wife lost it, laughed and told all of her friends

    • The husband hung his head in shame

  • I made it to my train car and I’m in the top bunk

    • I’m the only foreigner in this entire eighteen carriage train

China Meandering Musings:

  • Everyone shamelessly picks their nose

  • Alot of people blast the volume on their phones

  • You can FEEL the middle class growing

  • Everyone is WAY more western than what they used to be even five years ago

  • Everyone loves the NBA, Golden State and Kobe (but not Lebron haha)

  • SO MANY CHINESE TOURISTS

  • Alot of people love to be unrealistically helpful

    • “Add me on WeChat and I’ll help you with directions all over China and where to find things!”

  • SO NICE AND CURIOUS
