So as of today, I’ve been living on the island for a little over three weeks although it feels at least twice as long. Over the past weeks, I have been adapting to island life quite well. It’s a slower pace of life, one filled with a sense of general malaise and to never rush because you really have nowhere to go. It’s a simpler and slowed version of life, one that makes all the days blend together.

I wanted to find work in Thailand to extend my stay. I arrived on Koh Phangan, looked at all of the hostels rated 8.5 and above on this website called hostelworld (there were about 20), and rented a scooter to knock on doors asking for a job. I spent six hours looking all around the island, got denied by eighteen hostels in a row and lucky number nineteen said yes. SO I am calling Shenanigans hostel home for the next month or so and it’s beautiful.

After spending about a week in Siem Reap, I made the move to finally go to Thailand. The bus came extremely early at six in the morning, then we took a three hour bus ride to the Cambodian border then slowly over two hours made our way through the Thai border and customs into Thailand. After we were all officially in Thailand, we took another bus ride for six more hours to Bangkok.

I want to do a separate post just about Angkor Wat, seeing how this was hands down the coolest thing I did in Siem Reap. I made a list of places I wanted to go and things I wanted to do when I was sixteen, Angkor Wat was on that little list. It felt surreal to be walking through the old city at five in the morning and seeing the sun bathing the temples in soft morning light.
